Just Fabulous in Kensington

Filed under: Restaurants & Bars, San Diego — Beth @ 10:35 am

Come on back this weekend for my round-up of the week’s best online food content. Until then…

A space devoted to fine wines and exquisitely-made desserts… what could be better? Well, actually Just Fabulous Kensington has all that AND truly delicious entrees. Last week, I met my old, dear friends for dinner at this darling neighborhood cafe. Thank you, Ali, for recommending this great find!

Look at this gorgeous Artisan Cheese Collection:

This was the all-around best cheese platter I’ve ever had. For $19.95, we enjoyed a variety of cheeses: Humboldt Fog with a thread of edible ash running through it, Manchego paired with quince paste, Boschetto, P’Tit Basque, and Roaring Forties Blue. The plate overflowed with other goodies, including caramelized walnuts, fresh figs, apples, crostini, homemade bread sticks, kalamata olives, grapes, and a figgy cake.

We ordered three entrees to share among the four of us. The Snake River Ranch Kobe Beef Burger was outstanding - one of the best burgers I’ve ever had! Juicy and perfectly cooked to medium, it came with black truffle cheese, oven roasted tomatoes, onion, garlic mayo, and crispy pommes frittes. We seriously regretted cutting the burger into fourths and splitting it. After one bite, we all wished we had our own! I’ll definitely be dragging my meat-a-holic husband back there for this treat.

Here, you’ll see the Thai Chili Chicken Penne (too spicy for my mild tastes!) and Tiny Crab Quesadillas with Chinese Salsa Fresca (served compliments of the chef):

Next up was the vegan, but still flavorful and satisfying to our group of meat eaters, Vegetable Lasagna made with polenta, roasted vegetables, and smoked tomato sauce:

We contemplated the dessert choices, but it was too overwhelming and everything was just too tempting!

We asked the waitress for her recommendation and she suggested this “You-Asked-For-It Double Chocolate Cake.” The presentation, as you can see, was frantic and fun and enticing. The flavor was rich and totally hit the spot after our scrumptious meal:

One last Just Fab photo for the road…

Just Fabulous could have settled for just being a standard wine and dessert place. But they do everything right - in my opinion. Comfortable and casual, yet serious about food. Fun and intriguing presentations backed up by undeniably quality food. Wine, pastries, burgers, a friendly staff… all underneath the lights of the neon Kensington sign. I’ll definitely be back…
