Favorite Foodism of the Week
For San Diego Foodies
Have you seen San Diego Magazine’s Ultimate Dining Guide 2005? Agree or disagree?
I was just wondering how the 2005 San Diego Wine & Food Fest went last weekend. Thanks for the report, Scott! Oh and here’s Angie’s report, too!
Well, I Think It’s Kind of Cool…
Chow Magazine has linked to my blog from their front page. Scroll down a bit and check the left sidebar. Pretty cool! I see an article about food blogs in their future…
The Food Blogosphere
It’s been awhile since I’ve checked out the upcoming food blogger events. If you haven’t looked lately either, here’s your chance. There are some wide-ranging events coming up.
Most Intriguing Recipes
Seasonal and healthy… here’s Rachael’s Pomegranate and Walnut Chicken. Oh, and I’m also intrigued by her Autumn Veggie Tacos, too! Why don’t you just start reading her blog already?
I’ve been flirting with the idea of learning more about Indian cuisine and this recipe for Sweet Saffron Pilaf with Nuts and Currants is on the short list of recipes I might start my adventures with. Oh, and this list of the Top Ten Indian Cookbooks is quite helpful, too.
I wish I had a batch of these Chocolate Andes Cookies in front of me right now. Thanks for the recipe, Crystal!
For All Foodies
Way too practical to ignore… Eat It Up’s 5 Cooking Tips.
It’s a few months old, but maybe some of you haven’t seen this… 50 Things (in no particular order) That Every Cook Should Do. I fear I’m quite behind the curve.
For All Us Lushes

Hi, Beth,
Congrats on the mention from Chow Magazine! By the way, I think the link in the post is off. It’s http://www.chowmag.com.
About the Ultimate Dining Guide, I’ve only gone there once, but I feel like The Marine Room is slightly over-rated. I had a good meal there, but I felt like I’ve had better in San Diego — most notably at the wonderful El Bizcocho. I can’t believe El Bizcocho didn’t get one mention.
As far as Best Pizza goes, there are a couple of dark horses catching up to Bronx Pizza. My current favorite is Gotham City Pizza in South Park. The crust at Bronx sometimes gets tough. Gotham’s crust is a little more palatable (though sometimes on the floppy side). It has great sauce and cheese and sauce-to-cheese ratio. People have also been talking up Pizzeria Luigi in Golden Hill. I like the crust there, but for me they don’t have the same magic as the Gotham or the Bronx.
For Chinese, I always think it’s kind of cheesy when they put PF Chang’s up there. It’s fairly Westernized, but I guess it’s not bad. Why not put some more authentic fare up there like Ba Ren, Spicy City, or China Max?
For best Middle Eastern, I just think Khyber Pass was OK. Again it could be I was unlucky on my one visit. I do like Bandar, and I think Alborz in Del Mar might be my favorite in that category. It would also be nice to see Mamma’s Lebanese Deli there.

Hmmm… I just realized that I was commenting on the Reader’s Poll. On the critic’s picks, El Bizcocho got Best of the Best. Yay!

Beth:
Thanks for the weekly roundup.
It’s hard to take those dining guides seriously. PF Chang’s as the best Chinese? Rubios? Chuck E. Cheese?! I always wonder how many restaurants get listed in the guide if they don’t advertise in the magazine.
Nice plug by Chow Magazine! You deserve it. I had never seen their mag until I saw it on your blog and now I’m a subscriber.
Someday I would like to participate in one of those blogging events. But with Thanksgiving coming up I don’t see myself having a lot of free time…

Thanks for the mention. I had hoped to write a little more about the food - I didn’t write anything down and flat out forgot to take any pictures of the individual tables. I will work on my blogging skills!
