For San Diego Foodies

I learned from the S.D. Gourmet Club blog that The Wine Sellar in Sorrento Valley offers some cool wine-tasting events on Saturdays. Learn more here.

I swear I had this idea a few weeks ago… check out the new Weekend Cookbook Challenge. I’ll admit it: I have a ton of cookbooks that are virtually unused and serve only as bookshelf ornamentation. Maybe this challenge will get me on the ball and ease the guilt that sometimes creeps up on me for the hundreds of dollars I’ve spent on cookbooks I just “had to have.” Thanks Sara and Alicat.

For All Foodies

This isn’t really one of my favorite items of the week, but it did intrigue me. What is this? Tastefully Simple Home Parties. Has anyone participated in these? It’s like a tupperware or scrapbooking party company, but it bills itself as a “Home Taste-Testing Company” for people who like to eat but not cook. Weird.

Most Intriguing Recipes

From Seven Spoons… Roasted eggplant tart, with caramelized onions and chèvre

According to Something So Clever, Paula Deen’s Sweet Potato Balls are fantastic. Yum!

I really want to make risotto soon. Maybe this Risotto Di Zucca E Taleggio Or Risotto With Pumpkin And Taleggio Cheese will be the recipe I use.

I hope you all had a fantastic and memorable Thanksgiving. Enjoy the rest of the long weekend!

  1. yay! thanks for the mention! I hope you participate — I too have a goodly amount of cookbooks that always seem like “I MUST BUY IT NOW” but then sit there ignored for years. Time to put an end to the madness! :)

  2. Tastefully Simple was all the rage when I lived in Florida about 4 years ago. I must admit, their food mixes were good. Their spinach dip and their chai were particular favorites. But it is kinda expensive, and nowadays I prefer to do it myself from scratch…The weird part was that if you agreed to host a party, you had to make almost all of the party food YOURSELF instead of the sales woman making it! So that was a bit too much work…
